What We Do

We’ve Lost the Plot 🥕

But we have moved on to greener pastures.

After many growing seasons by the Stonehaven Boardwalk. The Haven Plot came to a close at the end of April. Charlie, the landowner who kindly lent us the backyard to teach people how to grow their own food, is retiring and needs to free up the land to do with as he wishes. With access to land and green space in Scotland and the wider UK being such a timely issue, we are incredibly lucky to be able to take up the challenge of resurrecting an apothecary growing space and polytunnel at Mill of Muchalls.

The Plot gardening sessions are shifting to become Roots & Remedies – a food & plant medicine gardening project that brings people together in a welcoming space to learn about and experience growing food and medicinal plants.

Through friendly, practical sessions at Millpond Botanicals at Mill of Muchalls volunteers can build food-growing skills, and discover how plants support wellbeing, all while enjoying the benefits of being outdoors and learning together.

Refreshments and snacks provided – please let us know of any food allergies/intolerances to be taken into account. The sessions will be held outdoors and require a level of physical fitness and for you to be comfortable doing light manual handling tasks (e.g., carrying small items, gardening tasks). We ask that you come wearing appropriate footwear and adequate clothing and headwear (sunhat or woollen beanie when cooler). We provide gardening tools but if you prefer to bring your own please do.

Additionally, the garden composts any food waste collected from our Community Fridge at the Inspire by Stonehaven charity shop on Allardice Street.
